For the third year of my university degree I was required to take an Industrial Placement. I chose Galleria-RTS as they were developing large scale enterprise applications which I felt would give me great experience.
I quickly integrated into the team, working on the main Galleria application and producing production ready code within my first 2 months. I had to quickly refamiliarise myself with Visual Basic 6, as I hadn't written in VB6 for over 2 years. I was also given some time to experience the Support and QA roles within the business to give me a further insight into how the business operates.
I believe I impressed at my time with Galleria, not just with my development skills but also with my team work and social skills. I have been recommended by colleagues and also receieved some great feedback from my Line Manager.
Working at Galleria also gave me essential knowledge working on large scale Database Systems. I worked with Microsoft SQL Server 2005 and found myself quite at home writing complex T-SQL.
Galleria works with some of the best known brands in the world, including Walmart, Safeway and Tesco. For me to work in this environment was a great opportunity and I believe my role at Galleria gave me the experience and knowledge required to further my career within the computing industry.
